Deborah Hansel M.S., P.L.P.C., N.C.C.

I see parents, couples, adults, and teens. In this modern age, parenting and relationships have become more challenging than ever. Social media, phones, the internet, and video games can feel like insurmountable obstacles to raising kids. As a parent for almost 20 years, one of my passions as a counselor is to provide parents with emotional support and research-based parenting tools. I also work to provide hope for relationships. I have been married for 22 years. I understand the ups and downs of dating and marriage. For couples therapy, I use an Emotion-Focused (Sue Johnson) approach to strengthen attachment bonds.

One of the first steps in relationship counseling is to understand negative patterns that threaten the relationship. Seeing the pattern instead of the person as the problem is a key first step. Then we will work together to move to more positive patterns. When the music changes, the dance changes. I recommend Hold Me Tight by Sue Johnson.

In addition to parents/couples, I counsel teens. Drawing on my experience both as a counselor with teen clients and a parent of teens, my goal is to provide a safe space for teens to talk about the unique issues they face, including relationships, school, sports, anxiety, depression, bullying, and simply trying to find their place in an ever-changing world.
